Cavalier Concern

I used to idolize the gods

Exalted the words of men

Cherished the ratings of earthlings

Drank from the Psalter

of their praise

And shrank at  the altar

of censorial remarks

Melted  at  the shrine

of stark appraisals

I used to worship

the goddess of opinions

But she has drained me

of every honor left

Shredded every fiber

of residual esteem

And sapped all  treasures

Of accrued values

She speaks and goes to sleep

I hear and know no peace

So I emerged with emptiness

Like a famished lioness

Resolved to find my worth

In quietness and confidence

Listening only to one voice

Hearing only an intuition

Cheering on  only one king

The one that reigns

Within my heart.

  2. A difficult truth, well expressed. “Am I now seeking the approval of men, or of God?…If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ” (Galatians 1: 10). Hope all things are good w/ you, Gbolabo. 🙂

  13. thanks for showing love to my blog. its true we shouldn’t be ruled by opinion. I see God as the best determiner of how we should live our lives. I can relate to others negative comments preventing me from sharing the gifts I have been given with the world. im glad you don’t let anything stop you from offering the contents of your heart not for the worlds condemnation but for its dissection and enjoyment . you will always find there is someone who needs to hear what you are releasing into the atmosphere 🙂

  19. Hi Gbolabo Adetunji, I must commend your creativity and the evergreen words you bring up each time you publish on your blog. You made my 2018 incredible and I always look forward to your next publications. In the same light, I have received a good number of likes from you on my blogs as well. It really gladdens my heart each time I notice your likes and comments.
    More importantly, I have a forthcoming publication titled ‘Voices’ and I am in need of contributing poets on this one. I am hoping you will be interested in contributing to this effort. ‘Voices’ as titled is meant to discuss about the different visage of love – sweet love and sour love. In this publication, each contributing poets will come up with two poems; one perfect love story and the other, a sad love story.
