When I was coming here
The gates of earth demanded
What my quest on the globe would be
I wanted to go and see sunshine
To perceive the thrills of happiness
To discern the joys of living
To trade and earn the whole earth
To choose all my battles
And say a million hellos
But the gates of earth were fastened
Sending me back to the threshing pool
Deeming my unreadiness for life
Back I went pleading
To see the gloomy as well as the sunny days
To feel the pains as much as the pleasures
To bear the losses along with the gains
To say goodbyes as much as hellos
To fail as often as necessary
Only then were the gates unbolted
I was ready to do my time
For life is bound to happen
Someday, sometime or somewhere
As it does to all men
