My question from Southern By Design


    

  1. Where are you originally from? I am originally from a city where only one four people ever lived. I was alone in a town where I was surrounded by some kind of fluid called amniotic fluid in a place called my mother’s womb- Hey, that was a teaser! Seriously, She gave birth to me in a city that was once completely surrounded by walls and fortresses and  ruled by an Emir, called Zaria. Zaia is in Kaduna, Nigeria

  2. What is your favorite past time, besides blogging? It is something that I grew up to love as a child while living in Ascot. It is horse-racing.
    3. 

  3. Why did you begin blogging? I lost a lifetime investment in 2008. I decided not to succumb and took another launch at life . I took my second biggest hit about two months ago. Life threw me lemons and they were so dried up I could not even make lemonade. I lost all my juice. I almost slipped into despondency but I said no to pity- parties, drugs, alcohol or negativity. I needed something to fill a void. I decided to go into blogging mostly to read for inspiration, clear the cobwebs and to rekindle a passion for poetry that developed during early college days.

  4. Favorite animal and why? Bavarian Warmblood because of it’s jumping abilities and its calmness.
    5. 

  5. Favorite book? Difficult Question. This is always changing but I am loving the Climate of Fear by W.Soyinka. All time favorite is The Book of Ecclesiastes.
    6. 

  6. What famous person would you want to meet? Dr. Edwin Smith of Kentucky
    7. 

  7. Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? Helping people and making lives better.
    8. 

  8. Something that annoys you? I generally don’t have high expectations and hardly get disappointed to the point of being annoyed. Righteous pessimism has its good side.
    9. 

  9. What is the first thing you notice about a person when you meet? Their gender.Depending on what that is, the next is their genua.
    10. 

  10. What makes you happiest in life? Being able to live in the moment and being able to push myself beyond my limits.

    You do know that the most successful people lost everything and started again and succeeded… Anthony Robbins is my hero, never give up, he inspires and helps so many people and SO WILL YOU.  Congrats on your award. 🙂

    Thanks for participating and taking time to answer. I’m intrigued by some of your answers. It is quite amazing to me really, people from all over the world can come together, to enjoy the passion of blogging. 
    

    I love horses, so your racing puts me in awe. My favorite experience horse back riding was on the beaches of the Grande Cayman Island. I have never heard of the Dr. so now I’m going to have to look that one up. And, do you mean Ecclesiastes as in “nothing new under the sun,” “a time to be born and a time to die,” and “vanity of vanities; all is vanity.” 😉

      Oh I did enjoy participating. It is amazing indeed that the web age has broken a lot of barriers. Without the internet, I wonder by what stroke of luck would you and I and others here ever meet, let alone have a conversation.
      
Dr. Smith is a dentist who has exemplified the saying that “Charity begins at home.” He has has helped provide free medical treatments to thousands of people and children living in poverty. he is well known in Rural Kentucky. I’m sure you know a lot of people who are rich and famous and think that they need to travel thousands of mile to help people when there are people in poverty all around their own vicinity. I think Anderson Cooper will make Dr Smith more popular this week.
      
Yes, it is that Ecclesiastes. It has tons of inspirational poems and I do love that line you quoted. Indeed all is vanity.

        Oh, that is an amazing thing. We actually know a dentist here that started a program where she goes to schools and does free teeth cleaning for children that don’t get dental care. I always am amazed by those that are so charitable with the skills they have!

          Yes , the poor will never depart from the land. At the end of the day, what is more important is not our accomplishments, fame or fortune. It is all about those who we have helped and those who we have lifted up. that is why we should celebrate the few people that give back.

      I am happy you decided to participate. There are no rules for the format. Just accept and answer the questions as you deem fit , nominate others and give them questions to answer.     Thank you for the nomination and congratulations on your award.  It’s nice to have a peep into your world and know you better.  I couldn’t have guessed right with Zaria. My impression was that you are from the Yoruba States due to your name. Oh! Wole Soyinka – I still cannot  get ‘Abiku’ off my head. I read that classic every now and then while doing house chores. Lol. That’s the much I enjoyed his poetry and literary works.  Will give you a pingback when I tackle this award.  Thanks again for finding my blog interesting. Have a great day.  Cheers.  🙂

      Well, you are right about the name. I was born in Zaria and spent some of my childhood there. My parents were from the western part of Nigeria however. My dad was a professor at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria , which is why we lived in the north for some time. I speak Yoruba fluently by the way.
      
I read a lot of Soyinka’s works too especially after he won the Nobel Prize for Literature and it suddenly became cool, albeit for a brief moment at the time,  to be a Nigerian.
